Plant Based Milk
Almond Milk
Ingredients
- ½ cup almonds soaked in water at room temperature for 6 hours
- 4 cups water
- You will require a nut milk bag or muslin cloth.
Method
- Put the almonds in a blender. Add 1 cup water and blend.
- Add the remaining water and blend.
- Strain the mixture with a Nut Milk bag or Muslin cloth and squeeze out the milk.
- You may add extra water to make if desired.
- The milk stays good for up to 4-5 days in the refrigerator.
- Almond Milk can be used in various recipes like soups,smoothies and desserts.
Coconut Milk
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh coconut slices
- 2 cups water
- You will require a nut milk bag or muslin cloth.
Method
- Blend the coconut slices and water in a blender until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a bowl covered with nut milk bag or muslin cloth
- Squeeze the milk out completely.
- Coconut milk can be used right away or stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 days in a glass bottle.
Cashew Milk
Ingredients
- 1 cup cashews- soaked overnight
- 4 cups water
Method
- Drain and rinse the soaked cashews and put in a blender.
- Add 4 cups of water to it and blend well.
- Pour in a bottle or container and refrigerate and use as needed.
Oat Milk
Ingredients
- 1 cup Old fashioned (can be organic gluten free oats as per choice)
- 4 cups of ice cold water
- 1 tablespoon of maple syrup or honey- optional for some sweetness)
- You need a tightly woven nut milk bag as well.
Method
- Blend the above ingredients together only for 20-30 seconds.
- Strain it through a nut milk bag. Note do not over squeeze while straining.
- Enjoy or can be stored for about a week in a glass jar in the fridge.
